[Digestion] Biogas burner and light Design...

The Chinese have a very large biogas lamp and stove burner industry. Many quite artistic and beautiful as well as functional. With several manufacturers. Unfortunately, I lost a very good link someone gave me once, but here's one...

You can see the potential for local cottage industry making these and mantles. Warren

Dear Mike,
such lights are available in India. We use them in our training centre as demonstration. They use about 400 litres biogas per hour and the life of the mantle is the same as the mantles in lamps using kerosene as fuel.

Thanks David!

I am actually working on a biogas stove for our training facility here in Jamaica.
The info you provided is spot on, I have acquired the burners and will try to adjust same to work.

Your description will help me a lot to make some simpler burners.

Has anyone ever used Biogas in one of the "mantle" type burners for light, and can anyone comment on the effectiveness, and longetivity of same?

Thanks much for the assistance.

 Mike, Hello,

I have added a page on biogas burner design to the Biogas Wikispace. It includes a paper that I wrote on how to design a burner, which I wrote for a a group involved in making biogas burners in Africa. Ainea Kimaro used these equations in a project run by KIST in Rwanda (see the Ashden Awards report) and made a burner design that works well.

Anyone have an electronic copy of some biogas burners and biogas light designs handy?
Can do the hard and dirty, am more interested in refinements such as adapting for biogas/air mixtures and "proven" tricks/technologies.
Would appreciate it.
