Hello Vianney,

I may be able to assist
Need to know the full dimensions of the digester vessel:

Perimeter and height.
Placement: is it inground or freestanding vessel.
If freestanding vessel: what material is it.

Is there an agitation system?
what is the manner in which material is put through.

What is the frequency of input?
What is the volume of through put
What is the volume of the vessel

What is the ambient temperature ( night and day )
Note equipment at each site.
Note feeding regime at each site: continuous? Intermittent? Episodic?
Note feeding history at each site.
Note feedstock regime and feedstock input history at each site.
Note personnel and management practices at each site.
Note size of each pond ( or vessel ) and input infrastructure and output
infrastructure.
Note end useage of spent supernatant and spent sludge and how these are
managed during the methanogenesis process.
( proposed? )
Note end useage of biogas and fluids at each of the sites.
( proposed? )
Note pond process and management of these process: eg: throughput rate,
congestion in internal flow rate?,
congestion at output?
Congestion at inflow?
Note fluid volume and fluid solids concentration at site and how this may
vary.
( an optimal measuring device is a beer hygrometer which is used to measure
the density of the lees in beer manufacture as it has the similar solids
measurement range as the solids concentration in the influent ).
Note biogas production at site.
( proposed? )
Note internal managment of fluid regime within the effluent production pond
and the spent supernatant pond.
Temperature regimes within each pond; tabulated if possible, where possible.

If you can assist with some of the above information I am able to assist.

Regards
Carmine Bocchino

G'day Vianney,

The starting point is to find out/estimate the holding tank size and the
daily input/output (depending which way you look at it!) of manure. It may
be that the anaerobic digester is already there and a cover will collect the
methane ready for use. What happens to the manure after the tank?

All the best,

HOOROO

Subject: Larger scale biogas

Dear Friends,

I guess this email finds you well. I am heading to Kasese today, however, I
would want to share yesterday's photos with you (sorry the dates on the
photos are for Feb 14th 2012 - my camera seems to be crazy lately!!).

This is a farm 40 km away from Kampala, a long Hoima Masindi road. The farm
has over 600 dairy cows, 250 of these are in a single facility that I was
able to visit. All the dung from this facility is moved into a massive tank,
(this is the biggest cow dung collection point I have come across!! It is
heaven for a biogas gig!). The dungs needs to be converted to Electricity.

I will focus on the assessment for biogas, however, I do not much experience
with these larger biogas systems. Are you in position to advise? Your
experience will be fantastic. Let me know what you think.

I am off for now, I will be back.

Kind regards
