Dear attendee of the COP17,<br>

it is my pleasure to inform you that will be presenting our work on
household biodigesters in China (Yunnan and Sichuan provinces) and
its replication potential in Africa.<br>
The French Global Environment Facility and the French Development
Agency have been promoting, in collaborotion with the ACCA21, the
construction of more than 125 000 domestic biodigesters in China and
the development of related carbon finance documentation in order to
support those biodigesters on the long term.<br>
<br>
The event will take place in the <b>EU pavillon, room Brussels, the
Saturday 3rd of December between 1pm and 3pm</b>.<br>

We are pleased to inform you that a side-event on the rural carbon
program will take place at the Durban Climate Change conference.
Saturday 3rd December

Rural Carbon Program implementation in China,
and potential for replication in Africa
To promote access to carbon markets to reduce greenhouse gases
emissions in Yunnan and Sichuan two of the poorest rural areas in
China, a global cooperation program has been set up by the French
Global Environment Facility(FFEM), the French Development Agency (AFD)
and the Chinese official Agency for the Agenda 21.
The program contributed to successfully develop a methodology for
bamboo reforestation and to value emissions reductions from methane
based households’ biodigesters. It intends to capitalize on the
experience and know-how gained, and to replicate it in Sub-Saharan
Africa.
This North-South-South cooperation will be presented by the rural
carbon funding agencies. African, Chinese, and French experts will
present the first results and the potential for replication in the
African continent.
This event will be in English.

Partners
The French Global Environment Facility (FGEF/ FFEM), a bilateral fund
which was set up in 1994 by the French Government following the Rio
Summit. Its aim is to promote the protection of the global environment
in developing countries through projects for economic and social
development.
The Agence Française de Développement (AFD), a bilateral development
finance institution established in 1941 that works on behalf of the
French government. Its mission is to finance development according to
France’s Overseas Development Assistance policies.
The Administrative Centre for China’s Agenda 21 (ACCA21) is affiliated
to the Ministry of Science and Technology of China and was founded in
1994 to promote sustainable development.
Initiative Development (ID) is a French NGO which has been working in
China on household biogas project development.
The Nature Conservancy (TNC) is a conservation organization working to
protect ecologically important lands and waters, including bamboo.
Carbonium is a French consulting and financial intermediation company
specialized in carbon projects development and their access to
finance.
The Yunnan CDM Center coordinates biogas and bamboo reforestation in Yunnan.
The Sichuan CDM Center coordinates with the Sichuan Rural Energy
Office, local governments, villages, and biogas technical service
providers to ensure the implementation of project activities in
Sichuan.
