In the case of<BR>both the types of manures (vermicompost and biogas effluent), the minerals<BR>come from the biomass itself. The organisms involved in the process<BR>primarily remove the carbon from the biomass, leaving the minerals<BR>behind. There is another process, which actually adds water soluble<BR>minerals to the compost. In this process, biomass is composted by layering<BR>it alternately with soil. In this process, the biomass serves as the carbon<BR>source for the micro-organisms in the soil. With such an abundant supply of<BR>organic carbon as food, the microbes absorb minerals directly from the soil<BR>and multiply their numbers. The resultant microbial biomass has more<BR>minerals in it than the minerals in the original biomass, and because the<BR>minerals form a part of the microbial cytoplasm, they are easily dissolved<BR>in
