<br>
1. There are arguments on how worse methane is for<br>
the atmosphere than carbon dioxide, depending on<br>
assumptions on how long it lasts in the<br>
atmosphere. Global warming is the result of<br>
radiation at different frequencies being absorbed<br>
by the different gases, preventing heat being lost<br>
from the earth. Methane absorbs more radiation<br>
from the infra-red spectrum than carbon dioxide.<br>
<br>
2. There are two ways in which biogas can be used<br>
in engines: a dual-fuel engine uses diesel or<br>
biodiesel to provide ignition (about 20% or less).<br>
Raw biogas can be used in these engines, mixed<br>
with the air intake. A spark ignition engine can<br>
also be used with biogas, but these are more<br>
susceptible to corrosion from hydrogen sulphide,<br>
so this should be cleaned from the gas.<br>
<br>
3. Oil cake is a good feed for a biogas plant, but<br>
should be mixed with other materials. A colleague<br>
in India has built a plant for a community that<br>
uses cattle dung and oil cake as the main<br>
feeds and works well.<br>
