<DIV>Because I have built these in times past industrially, but wasn't thinking enough out of the box, I remembered that in the wastelands in front of us, there are woodburners who make coal in the traditonal methods using dirt kilns. There is lots of coal bits and carbonised soil left over from this process. I have sent for some amounts of this material, to cover the smelly portions of the mass, AFTER I have doused it with some probiotic liquids that I will make. I was glad to see the use of the word probiotics in this paper, biology that is beneficial to man, and used to destroy bad smells in this case. They even suggest optimal depths to cover with to control the smell, as the VOC's waft through the cover, they are chemically and biologically attacked and destroyed! Great stuff....</DIV>

Thanks for that reminder.<BR><BR>I was really thinking of something to spray on maybe to do a odor knock-down quickly that ill not "add" to the smell, but Alam's idea of going further and placing it in a controlled space, as in a bag, may be the way out for me. I am going to use what I have today to create a microbial slurry to try and knock down this smell.</DIV>

<P>I have no personal experience with oil cake but have heard that you must only feed limited amounts of things like glycerine (and oil cake?) or you will kill the digester.</P>
<P>For quickest response I would suggest a visit to your local sewage treatment plant to get some AD sludge (if they have an anaerobic system), or use cow or pig manure or septic tank sludge as an innoculum.</P>
<P>You will of course have to capture the biogas and burn it off, as methane is 23-26 times worse as a greenhouse gas than CO2.</P>

Have a situation where, after storing waste castor seed cake on a compost pile for a few years we had to move it, or stir it up, to make way for an aquaponic system, and it is stinking fiercely, much to the dismay of my neighbours. I realise that the oil has seeped down over the years into the core of the mass, and the outer sections have been burnt dry by the sun and less smelly.</DIV>
<DIV><BR>Am thinking real short term help with bio-digestion to the rescue. Am thinking of brewing a quick batch of bacteria, which can quickly eat and digest and belch off, this stuff, so that it will not smell as bad as it is doing right now. Does anyone have experience with this oily seedcake mass, which I cannot place into a bio-digester right now, I was storing it in the hope of having this as a high yield in-feed mass. <BR><BR>Can anyone give me some renegade help with brewing a bio-assistance brew, to kill this stench down quickly please?<BR><BR>I have sufficient containers and warm water, so I can do a batch brew with some help. <BR>Would regular human probiotic tablets for indigestion be a good seedstock to start this brew to kill the smell, or does someone who has processed oily seedcakes have a better idea?<BR><BR>I am grateful for all help on this matter.<BR><BR><BR>Mike Barnett</DIV>
