<p class="MsoNormal">The TLUD stoves are gaining attention and good reports in Africa and India. My concern is that Latin America is not yet strong with the gasifier stove technology, and I want the Foro to include the opportunity to inform the Spanish-speaking
community about some strong prospects for the future. <u></u><u></u></p>

<p class="MsoNormal">I hope that Rogerio Miranda will attend and have a few words about his experiences and vision of gasifier stoves for America Latina. iDE can make comments based on experience. And Omar’s work about stove stacking is a solid lead into

<p class="MsoNormal">Currently, the forced air (FA) TLUD stoves are still focused on using pellets and densified briquettes, which are not available in many places in Latin America. But those “processed fuels” are certainly coming, and the TLUD-FA stoves
will certainly have acceptance when the pellet fuel is available. If you know of a source in Latin America (for local sale, not just for export), please let me know and we might get a project initiated where those pellets are available.<u></u><u></u></p>

<p class="MsoNormal">My own work that involves India includes a FA-TLUD of appropriate size to use wood segments or chips, becoming free from the need for densified processed biomass.<u></u><u></u></p>

<p class="MsoNormal">There is a need for ALL combinations of gasifier stoves and biomass types, including rice husks. Such topics need to be at least brought to the attention of the participants at the 3er Foro.<u></u><u></u></p>

<p class="MsoNormal">I am writing to request that the topic of micro-gasifier stoves (TLUD) be given major exposure at the 3er Foro at Zamorano, Honduras next month. I am very sorry that I cannot
attend, but I will be in Brazil at that time. I thought about trying to give a video presentation, but there can be better ways.<u></u><u></u></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"> <u></u><u></u></p>
<p class="MsoNormal">So I am turning to all of you to please try to present about TLUD stoves for America Latina. Please note:<u></u><u></u></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"> <u></u><u></u></p>
<p class="MsoNormal">1. Many of you have TLUD gasifier stove experience. Please make that available. Maybe in a panel.

<p class="MsoNormal"> <u></u><u></u></p>
<p class="MsoNormal">2. There will be at least one presentation or poster about the recent TLUD stove work of iDE in Honduras. It is part of the Profogones-sponsored efforts. Carlos, Thomas, Roque
and others of iDE will be handling that. I am sure that they will help any attendees to understand how the TLUD stoves are “clean gas burning stoves that make their own gases as needed from wood, while producing valuable charcoal.”<u></u><u></u></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"> <u></u><u></u></p>
<p class="MsoNormal">3. At the recent meeting of ETHOS in Seattle, Omar Masera presented a great report on the need for stove stacking (use of multiple different types of stoves in a single household).
In the world of tortillas and plancha stoves, there is also a usage and a need for some direct fire, especially if it can be fast and clean and inexpensive. Call this “Short-term cooking” or some other name for making café, fritando huevos, esquentando agua,
making a snack, and even preparing rice in a full-size pot (and using a retained heat cooker to finish the job after boiling a few minutes). Come up with a good name in Spanish. This is important cooking in Latin America.<u></u><u></u></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"> <u></u><u></u></p>
<p class="MsoNormal">4. THIS type of short-term direct fire cooking is the place for some TLUD stoves. The stove by iDE fits that category. It can be a replacement for the LPG which is so convenient
but can be expensive or in short supply in remote areas. I request that Omar incorporate the TLUD POSSIBILITY into his presentation (which I certainly recommend to be presented in a plenary session at the 3er Foro.).

<p class="MsoNormal">4. Perhaps someone (Omar, Gustavo, Rogerio, Thomas & others at iDE, or other persons) could point out the different options for “Short term cooking” and compare them. I am sure
that TLUD and LPG will be by far the two most favored options.<u></u><u></u></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"> <u></u><u></u></p>
<p class="MsoNormal">5. I would like to add a few comments that I hope are presented to the attendees (either attributed to me, or just stated in someone’s comments/presentation).<u></u><u></u></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"> A. There is much progress for lower emissions and greater fuel efficiency with TLUD gasifier stoves.<u></u><u></u></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"> B. Natural draft TLUD stoves called “Champion” are in daily use by 35,000 homes in India where the cooks can sell for cash the charcoal that they make and the
project is earning and selling four carbon credits per stove per year. <u></u><u></u></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"> C. The TLUD stoves with forced air (FA = fan assisted) are being piloted with great success and will certainly become important in Latin America in the next few
years.<u></u><u></u></p>
