[Gasification] Reinventing wheels, and fans!

Here is one of several links to bypass style vacuum motors.

I Googled:
ametek lamb bypass vacuum motors
to get to it.

Ametek and Lamb are the brands we used 'way back then.
I don't think we actually needed the bypass style in one machine we
built, but they are quieter than the air-through style. In our largest
machine, an electron microscope turned backwards to write on microfilm,
we had 3 roughing pumps, several cooling blowers and 4 of the simple
Lamb air-through vacuum motors running at the same time, 24 hours a
day. It was so noisy that a few extra vacuum motors didn't matter. Off
topic, but the machine comsumed 5 1/2 KW of 3 phase 208 to produce a
one microamp beam at 20,750 volts.
In another stand alone machine (that copied microfilm to microfiche)
that was usually located in a separate room, noise was an issue, so we
used the bypass vacuum motors.
