It would be very easy to convert the curtain burner to make charcoal as well. A necessary part of good TLUD charcoal production is keeping the fuel bed dense, so that oxygen can't slip past the wood layer into the charcoal and reduce the typically 20% yield.
How about the opposite effect, increasing the density of the pile to make PYROLYTIC combustion even more effective? Are yields higher then 20% possible, or is that a function of the lignin content?

There needs to be dramatic demonstrations for soil-char productivity. Every farm typically has a lot of debris that could be converted to char once farmers realize the benefits to both themselves and the atmosphere!
