[Gasification] ideal wood gas engine

Hi Greg,
I guess you're talking about GM's 292 cu.in. "L25" engine or its earlier
variant? In standard trim, they put-out 292 Nm of torque (not hp) and about
115 hp (86 kW) at the top of their hp curve, although most of us that owned
them surely wished that they put-out 292-hp!
I'll leave it for you to de-rate this performance to woodgas and 1800 RPM.
Maybe I'm reading you wrong; if you are simply saying 20-BHP at 1,800-RPM on
woodgas, then that seems right-on! I seem to remember some beefed-up main
bearing models, also.
Best, Mark

292 inline 6 will do fine.

292 BHP @ 3600 is roughly 100, wood gas on this engine would be around 60,
derate to 1800prm (1/3) would be about 20, bang on.

Hi All,

I have several engines to chose from here for my next wood gas project.
Going to go ahead with it and just hope the stink has settled form my
insurance company ripping hair out of their heads. ( hope they are not on
here.. bugger )
Besides this is not a heating device so should not count.
What out of the junk yard specials would be considered ideal for wood gas
give I Only need this time to come up with 20 hp at 1,800 rpm?
I have everything in the shop for a Mike clone.
Spending a few bucks for the right engine is going to be real cheep just
now.
I am not keen on stuck valves through pistons. ( it that ever happens...
never mind )

Regards all,
Charles
