Tom,
So let me get this straight, they (range fuels) holds the carrot out there with permitting to make 100 million gallons a year, and "plans for expanding to make 60 million gallons" to get 76 million from the department of energy alone, 300 million from all.
I don't know how much a batch is, but they were only "opperational" for one year or less, at a claimed rate of beeing able to produce 10 million gallons a year.
I heard on the radio that the feds uped the allowable gas ethanol mix from 10% to 15%.
It makes me want to puke, we tax payers paid at least 7.60$ a gallon for that garbage to be made, probably more like $20 a gallon,, then we need to pay another $3.00 a gallon to actually buy it at the pump. Then on top of that we all get our personal machinery ie. lawn mowers, chainsaws, weed eaters, even our autos and boats, all screwwed up and huge repair bills or lost sundays learning to deal with this disassociating garbage fuel with nearly no shelf life.
I'm sure that a handfull of people made large money, and took it with them and off they go to the next big money government subdidized project, they won't stay with it because there is always easier better money hypothetically doing something.
Are there really technical problems, or is it just as Doug infered a month or so ago that the technical problem is that the people who are the best at this are just finding a deeper gravy covered dinner sucking up government money, and are avoiding the lower paying private sector jobs.
Personal accountability needs to be some where in all this, untill we get back to a sink or swim society,, it really will be true "Once a great nation" .
get your gasifier tunned up and ready, its only going to get worse before better, I just hope not much and soon.
luke

"Cellulosic ethanol company Range Fuels is closing its Soperton, Georgia facility after completing it first batch of ethanol, according to story posted by Georgia Public Broadcasting.
The firm, which has received more than $300 million dollars in state, federal and private funding, will lay off the majority of its workers and shutter operations, while it attempts to raise more money and address technical issues."
