Dear Mr. Adam,
Spain is sure not a low wage country, but we can still find people working for € 10,-/h (insured)in rural areas.
There is a big crisis and fuel costs are equally high.
We have large amounts of all kinds of biomass available and there are very concrete energy users with needs between 100 -
1000 kW of thermal energy for drying purposes.
Most of them are vegetable growers or maize farmers or food industries close to the land where the raw products come from an
where biochar could be retransferred back to the fields.
I am working on a simple self propelled kind of harvester for prunings and small trees up to 15 cm with either a disc or a
screw chipper attached and a 11 m³ load capacity onboard. This unit will produce a considerable amount of fines and twigs
apart from the chipps which are commercially valuable.
We are working on a system to winnow the fines and want to char them.
Also, there are many thousands of tons of corn and tobacco stalks, pepper shrubs and other farm "wastes".
My idea is to make char and use it as a complement for manure based agriculture while recovering the thermal energy for the
drying process and perhaps greenhouse warming/CO² fertilizing.
Most farmers will not invest into any system before they see that things work and there is a benefit.
Do you see a way to build such a continuously working charring system to fulfill these needs?
After all I have seen in your various publications, I guess I could build such a unit by myself and - best case- make it
portable.
I would be pleased to hear from you.
Best wishes
Rolf Uhle
