[Gasification] Running a vehicle on wood gas

Hi Gasification Colleagues,

This discussion about mobile gasification application of gasifiers in Australia has tweaked a reminder of photos I have on file about the free wood available in Australia. That country has a very different tough environment and the trees that grow there reflect this in how they grow. These photos show a fallen gum tree (eucalyptus) of which there are over 2,000 deferring species across the continent. When a tree falls it is usually already infested by white ants (termites) and they usually leave just the shell of the tree. My brother Pete obligingly held up a piece which I estimated to be about 6kg or equivalent to 1.6 litres of gasoline. This wood is so hard, that you can just break it by bashing it onto another log. It snaps like a carrot, so continent for any collectors of firewood.

I have hundreds of tree photos, and my wife complains that I have more taken with me and trees than she has! When I get my head up shortly, I will assemble them and place on the Fluidyne Archive.

Doug Williams,
Fluidyne
