Hello Rolf,Are you asking about microbial methanogenesis or chemical synthesis? Microbes reduce reaction energies with an assortment of enzymes; catalysts do the same in syntheses. But either way, there must be a source of free energy to not violate the Second Law of thermodynamics.Best, Mark

it surprises me, though to see that there is a way to build a higher energetical product from an energetically " lower" one.
Where doest the energy come from? Can anybody help me?
