> On a related note, I was at an ORC seminar
yesterday where an ERK
> licensee was discussing the issues - including
calorific variation -
> associated with burning producer gas in large
scale gasification
> plants. He was emphasising that tight control
of the feedstock was of
> paramount importance

We would love to gasify fuel of any
quality, but the realities of controlling any thermal biomass process, is to
first control the moisture content of the fuel. Gasifiers can "sort of"
handle moisture variation, but it is always at cost to the gas making
cycle. When the gasifier output is also required to be variable depending
on it's application, the tight control really does kick into gear. You should
expect to see more pre-dried fuel chip ( <10%) being specified in future
gasification projects, along with a chip size specifications, especially where
the producer gas quality really matters.
