ash chemistry are being gasified in Asia. For example,
there are hundreds of rice husk gasifiers generating
shaft power for rice mills. China build dozens of
community scale straw gasifiers for heating and
cooking. As Tom and Thomas have pointed out the ash
chemistry of ag residues is a challenge for extended
operation. That’s why carbonizing straws at low
temperatures, keeping most of the ash in the char and
burning the pyrolysis gas in a boiler to recover heat
is an interesting alternative. You still accumulate
slag in the pyrolyzer over time and have to clean it
out periodically. </p>

We have gasified slagging materials and have had
to operate between the gasification and slagging
temperatures using careful control of the
temperature and moderating materials to achieve

non-filtering, non-fouling designs. Really work
well at a very low cost and minimal maintenance
with no replacement materials or clogging, mostly
at low temperature. </span></p>

Thermogenics continues to pursue the field in
spite of the large number of others who have
crashed and burned, so to speak, but because of

specific information on their
"projects" which is disappointing. By
producing bio=char, you have a built
in limit of energy conversion because
bio-char or pyrolytic char represents
the 30% fixed carbon in organic matter
and is the overall thermal conversion
is intrinsically limited by this loss.
I am still of the opinion that long
term "recycling" of crop residue which
is what bio-char is has limited
benefits from other nutrient
depletion. </span></p>
