[Greenbuilding] insulation vs. air sealing

Do the materials used make a difference in the moisture and ventilation?
I'm thinking of wood, which often contains some moisture, even when it's
carefully dried and kept sheltered from rain and water leaks. In some
situations, it seems like wood benefits from a certain amount of ventilation
as it responds to air humidity and temperature.

Is that right or am I using faulty reasoning?

Thanks,

In unoccupied spaces such as attic and crawlspaces, ventilation is for
moisture control. In the attic, it is also for heat removal in the summer.
I agree with the point that if these spaces are sealed tight to not allow
moisture to enter, they would not need ventilation. This is a difficult
standard to achieve. However, in the case of a crawlspace, if you install a

dehumidifier to run only when humidity level achieves problem level. The
sealed crawlspace attempts to block hot humid air entry into space and other

sources of moisture. Because it is unoccupied, air quality for breathing is

not an issue.

Ventilation in a well sealed house is not just for humidity. Seeing as
the body releases all sorts of nasty toxins you are also ventilating
for that. For example studies show that CO2 levels get really high in
bedrooms at night.
