No, we are not ripping out all the cabinets, and we are NOT building
new cabinets from new wood. We're leaving the uppers (even though
they are really too low), and are "retrofitting" the old bottom
cabinets to fit our lifestyles. It's not just the dishwasher. The
counter is too low for my husband (who cooks a lot) to use. They are
almost too low for me to use! They have no toe-kick, so every time
you walk up to them, you bang your toes into them. The drawers are
all wood, built great, but stick because there are no slides. If you
pull it out too far, the whole thing falls out into the floor, and
onto your feet (ask me how I know. LOL).

There is barely room for the plumbing underneath, and that has to be
brought up to code. They'll have to cut through the backing for that
and the electrical anyway.

Nothing in the house has been touched since 1960, but most of it is
still the original 1930 design.

We were going to live with it and just make the other row of cabinets
(which will be new, built from old wood) larger, but the dishwasher
issue was just the last straw, and the deciding factor into remaking
the existing cabinets.
