I went to university for a time in a small mid-western city that was dominated by Polish Catholics. The inevitable use for a no longer wanted cast iron tub there was to bury it half-way in the front yard, length-wise, insert a statue, and create a shrine- usually to the virgin Mary. Us irreverent students called them "Mary- on- the- half-shell".
Nowadays we call this "adaptive re-use".
