On an average July day in Phila, 820 Btu/ft^2 of global sun falls on a 
south wall, and 580
of that is diffuse, ie it comes from all over the sky, so external 
curtains (eg 80% greenhouse
shadecloth) can assist overhangs, especially on east and west walls.
