[Greenbuilding] Eliminate Irons

Yes, of course Erin, I agree with you on this point. I use cloth table
napkins, because I hate the thought of trees being cut to make throw-away
paper napkins. Then, the other day, I pulled a whole bunch of them out of
the washer and thought I would iron them. I ironed, while I wondered (with
horror) how much power I was using to do so.

I spin yarn from my sheep and weave as well. If I ever get enough of it to
make clothes, I guess I could justify the use of the iron and or steamer to
steam the seams and block the fabric! Thanks for the perspective -
everything is relative, isn't it?

Kathy

I frequently iron when I'm making and setting the shape into clothes or
other sewn items, and a steamer is very nice for blocking knitted and
crochet garments. There are quite a few people who sit down and make items
instead of buying them, and prefer to locally source the materials necessary
for the making. It's harder for clothing, but as demand grows, supply seems
to grow too. :-) ( it's got to be better to make a local garment than to
buy an imported one).

While we are at it, why not eliminate irons.

Does anyone still iron their clothes?
