[Greenbuilding] Chest type Freezer efficiency

A homebrewer I know was given a chest freezer from the 1980's, and found a forum online which mentioned fiddling with the coarse adjustment screw, and then found some pictures or directions for this procedure. Apparently the screw is in or near the thermostat. He was able to get the freezer to about 40 degrees this way. No additional override thermostat needed. Those are about $60 to $70 if needed. Just plug in the freezer to the thermostat, and plug the thermostat into the wall. Put the temp probe in a bottle of water in the freezer to temper the temp swings somewhat. Made by Johnson Controls. The digital version costs more.
