[Greenbuilding] is it ever sensible to use PV to heat water?

My system is dead simple. A Sun Earth Copperheart serving as solar
pre-heat into a heat pump water heater (Geospring). Everything runs on
regular water pressure. No pumps, just a few bypass valves.
