I started to think about the possibilities of utilising the carcase of a
discarded barbeque, lined with firebrick for a firebox but then started
thinking of something like a Chinese kang instead.

Presumably Reuben would not be making this wood-fired HWH simply for quick
showers.

So what about placing the soaking tub over top of the kang ?

Not only would the wood fire heat the water initially it could also, if
desired, keep the water in the tub hot for prolonged periods of time and
keep the bathroom itself toasty too.

Many other possibilities with such a set up come to mind (more than just
bathing) the more I think about it.

In olden China, families would practically live on the kang all winter,
not just sleep on it.
