It actually works to soak laundry in a tub and "agitate" once in a while with your hands.... rinse.  Sun is also a great spot remover... Just sayin'

Subject: [Greenbuilding] Hand Crank Washing Machines

I've been researching human-labor-powered washing machines and would love to hear from someone who's worked with them and can honestly say they like them, or at the least that they work.

There's the good'ol washboard, which seems to get more attention as a rhythm instrument than a hand powered washing machine.

There are numerous pedal-cycled systems, many homemade and time-consuming to make. And then some that are pre-assembeled and expensive.

And there are a variety of hand-crank units that look promising.

Anyone have any first-hand experience with these low-tech, sustainable washing machines?
