[Greenbuilding] linear fluorescent single tube 8ft fixture?

Fluorescent lamps contain toxic elements besides argon gas.
They contain mercury and a couple other nasty elements.
They save money in upfront cost and a boatload when they need to be trashed.

Anyone have experience with linear LED lamps (T8 replacements)?


It seems to me that notwithstanding the energy saving hype the lumens per
watt is *also* about 100, like for the good fluorescent T8s. Am I missing
something?
