[Greenbuilding] a comprehensive, authoritative text

Just as "Not only must Justice be done; it must also be seen to be done." Sustainable design should not only the building sustainable, but promote sustainability.
By that I mean that the sustainable design aspects should be obvious (not hidden behind ducts) and explanations provided to users/visitors of the building why those things were included.
For example; the new UDC Student Center is a LEED Platinum building, but it and other UDC buildings, regularly leave external lights on during the day, it obviously is not doing a very good job of promoting sustainability.
CC'ing Dean Sabine Ohara of CAUSES - perhaps she can explain why the external lights are on and/or add some points to this discussion.

Subject: [Greenbuilding] a comprehensive, authoritative text

I'm working on the sustainable design phase of a certification exam, and in need of an authoritative text on green building--particularly in respect to energy efficient design. This, to generate questions and support the answers.
the ideal text would include the fundamentals of hygrothemal physics--vapor drive, heat transfer, and how this can be controlled by envelop design and mechanical systems to provide a comfortable and healthy indoor environment with optimal efficiency.
also, some discussion of resource efficiency and life cycle analysis, as well as protection of the outdoor environment.
did I leave anything out?
