Zero sum game

Hi all,
I went to a industry related conference in Washington DC yesterday. 
It was interesting to see people there that were promoting Solar, making it more efficient and affordable. There were also folks from the oil/gas industries that were talking about lowering costs by automation.
Sounds to me like both groups are basically undoing each others progress.
