I often use a similar "trick." Instead of installing expensive
dimmable CFL recessed lights, I divide the lights up into two switch legs
so that either one or both of the circuits can be turned on. A recent
example was in a skylighted kitchen, where the switches basically served
as a manual daylight harvesting control: half the lights were used when
needed during the day, and all were usually used at night.<br><br>
We also had lights up in the skylight wells, so there was actually a
third variable in the artificial lighting level.<br><br>
