<p>What about inoculation of the wood chips with mushroom spore? Would this cause the wood chips to breakdown faster. It should increase the biota in the chip covering, potentially provide food or a harvest for the occupants and be low maintenance.<br>
Though if your in direct sunlight fruiting may be an issue.<br>

They can hold their structure for years achieving a number of green roof goals without the green initially. The end product is soil so you can look at it as a green roof in process or simply an urban composting area. Wood chips have been used in biofilters and support a diversity of life.<u></u><u></u></span></div>
