[Stoves] re Charcoal in Ganbia

Dear Richard

Sorry to be so pre-occupied. I will get to peoples questions later.

The 'aluta' today is Taffy's Master's thesis which as to be reviewed by
tomorrow night so I am buried in its many pages. It is really good. I am
impressed. There is a relevant quote from page 44 that offers an alternative
method of reducing exposure to wood burned in a 3 stone fire by switching to
charcoal.

"Ezzati & Kammen (2002) and Murray & Lopez (1996) reported that a transition
from burning fuelwood in a three-stone fire to charcoal can reduce PM10
exposure of household users by 75-95%, resulting in a 45% reduction in

childhood lower respiratory infections.

In other words, changing from a traditional cooking method to charcoal is
about as effective in reducing PM exposure as processing the wood fuel and
burning it is a good TLUD fan stove. There seems to be merit in fully
investigating combinations of technology and service delivery that can
transform the domestic and rural bio-energy sector.

Regards

Crispin

Crispin,

I an amazed at the tenacity with which you pursue all this and the level of
detail you put into your responses --tireless champion of the natural order
and all. While I may agree with you on some points, I do not necessarily
agree on others but I for one, do not have the time or typing ability to
devote the hours it would take to respond...

Someday over a beer perhaps !

Aluta continua,

Richard Stanley
