Garsh! Thanks.

This works well for a variety of stoves but is particularly effective for
automatically changing the airflow rate when you know darn well it is going
to be necessary.

I have tried it 'in the middle' meaning put in a small layer of fuel, then a
flat disk of newspaper, the more fuel up to the top. Have primary aid holes
(a few) above the paper. Have larger holes below.

When the pyrolysis front reaches and burns the paper, it allows a lot more
air into the hot zone and there is fresh fuel available. This last portion
of the raw fuel has enough power to burn the char above. In this way the
stove goes from gasifying+char producing to a gasifying char burner even
when unattended.

The time to change the airflow is not 'at the end' but just before the end.

Regards

Crispin

Dear Crispin

What a brilliantly clever and simple solution!!
