Crispin,
         I suspect it is the normal use of those residues, before our time
is archeologically investigated and those parts are rare and unknown.
 - But it's not a bad lesson to use scrap nearly untransformed for
stove-duties. 
It is intelligent to save the containing work and the inherent used energy,
and not spill it.
 
- How about to use old heating-radiators as stove-parts?
