[Stoves] Heat destroys Jatropha toxins Re: jatropha, stoves, and biochar.

Dear Friends

 

At the previous link there is a discussion of the toxicity for jatropha. It
seems that the rainfall, altitude and local climate affect toxicity
strongly.  Some crops are edible, some not.

 

Page 403-5 of the journal http://www.eurojournals.com/ejsr_39_3_08.pdf has
the discussion and this chart:

 



 

There seems to be an opening for jatropha to be used as a stove fuel,
provided the food labs can show the local varieties in local conditions give
a safe toxin or low toxin level, even if burned badly.
