Dear Roger

This happened when the fire was small and new, or small and old? Was there a
wind of some significance? The effect of a good chimney cap cannot be
underestimated.

Draft in low fire conditions can have very serious consequences. In fact I
was writing about that to Mongolia this morning. Everything works well with
a large fire but we have to plan for those little beasties as well!

You had better describe as best you can what happened and when in the burn.
There should always be a 'cheater' circuit in the stove to pull small amount
of heat into the chimney evading the heat exchanger. This usually prevents
problems even on stoves with a significant down-up gas path. I can send pics
if need be.

Regards

Crispin

Dear Crispin.......

Touche ! If I am to bother being that dishonest.......might as well
finish the job, eh?

So I have a good question for you, when the temperature drops I
get a loss of draft, I think more so with the 3" diameter flue. It caused me
great pains last night when my "sweet little stove" became a smoke bomb. Any
hints on overcoming this issue?

          Roger
