Dear list,

I found this video on chemically treating backyard made charcoal
http://youtu.be/dPabNV7TFFo into activated charcoal and it left me
perplexed. I thought the surface area of activated charcoal - typically
higher than 500 m2/g, but up to 1500 m2/g right? is largely due to the
pyrolysis temperature, again above 700 °C? and made in a retort type
kiln and not in a drum. If this is true can one not make activated
carbon from biochar?

Regards
