SNV, the Asian Development Bank (ADB) and the Ministry of Agriculture in China organised a three-day International Workshop on Domestic Biogas from 20-22 November in Chengdu, China.

Almost 120 participants from over twenty countries, mainly from Asia, representing government institutions, private sector, financial institutions, civil society organisations and development agencies joined the event.

The Vietnam Biogas Program has achieved registration under the Gold Standard, the stringent certification standard for projects reducing carbon emissions.

The multi-award-winning programme is the first Vietnamese project to register under the Voluntary Gold Standard and the second largest household energy project registered globally – proving that carbon markets can support the large-scale dissemination of life-improving sustainable technologies like household biogas.

Vietnam’s Biogas Programme has won international recognition as a winner of the 2012 World Energy Awards.

This is the first paper out of the Newborn Stove Project in India. It was preparatory to the feasibility study now underway to evaluate whether it works to disseminate advanced combustion stoves via the pre-natal care system in India. Reported here is the exploratory work done first to decide how to do the feasibility study and which of the two major clean biomass stoves commercially available in India at the time would be optimal. It covers evaluations of indoor/outdoor/personal air pollution and both qualitative and quantitative assessments of usage/adoption. This could serve as a model of what needs to be done before deciding to move ahead with an intervention.
