Thanks Steve and Frans

Indeed a labtob charger is 20V DC 3,5 A charging current for 3,8 Ah ,but
the battery is14,8 Volt .

But between charger and cells you have 20 cm2 chips inside the battery and
and 30 cm2 in the PC ..So supper uPcontrol and secret design !

The design of the battery pack electronics is actually for safety. The
chemistry of the battery goes exothermic, if they overheat during the
charge. This is prevented on the battery by a circuit that disables the pack
if the cell voltage gets too low, or on overtemperature.

The BlackBerry Battery has electronics in it that asks the phone if it is a
real BB. If it cannot answer a skill testing question the battery will
refuse to supply power. Similarly the phones ask the battery for a password
and if it is not supplied correctly, the phone will not accept power from
the (fake) battery.

This means using an old BlackBerry Battery entails removing the electronics.
The same will apply to PlayBooks when they start to become available. If
this trend catches on (battery sales are jealously guarded by the
manufacturers because fakes cause all sorts of problems) it will be
difficult to re-use these resources.

So, guys, are the instructions complete enough to be able to use these old
laptop batteries properly and safely? Is the charger talking to the battery
and changing its charging rate based on feedback?

Thanks

Crispin
