Dear Friends
This is a new type of device that will log temperature automatically and
create charts on a PC.
http://www.omega.com/ppt/pptsc.asp?ref=OS3750&ttID=OS3750&Nav=
$1425.
It is not a cheap way to measure temperature however it does several clever
things. It is essentially a temperature logger that operates from a
distance. Very convenient for surface temperature measurement which is often
difficult even with a contact thermocouple.
Note that is it a '2-colour' IR thermometer. 2-colour is a technology that
is reasonably able to self-compensate for changes in emissivity or if the
emissivity is unknown it can give a reasonable answer. Such a feature is not
cheap, that's the problem. It has a beam splitter that watches two different
frequencies of IR simultaneously. This can overcome most emissivity issues.
Regards
Crispin
