Yes, but there is round and there is round. No TLUD stove I have seen
is round within 0.0001". The approximation of round with a series of
straight line segments is common (take a good look at CAD/CAE software
like Autocad and Corel DRAW!) and a small enough deviation from round
does not affect the air flow significantly.
Let's assume a hexagonal shape. Can airflow be close enough to uniform
so there is little loss? I would believe it can. If not, where will
the air flow be nonuniform enough to have a significant effect?
I would be willing to bet that a triangular TLUD stove could be built
and it would be within 20% of the efficiency of a similarly designed
round one.
