[Stoves] TLUD Use

Stephen,

That is very helpful. I think at a point we need to be identifying specific
models, as you have done, rather than lumping them all into a general TLUD
category. Like other designs, there are good and very bad TLUD variants. The
latter spoil the opportunities for the former.

Many thanks.

Tom

Hi Tom

I gather from Mr Khoi that there has been considerable dissemination now in
North Vietnam. Although the DK stove is not really a TLUD the results that
I posted are very impressive and Mr Khoi continues to refine these.

We have just finished an evaluation in 100 households of stove use and
satisfaction and will be analysing the results over the next couple of
months. Hopefully we will have a peer reviewed paper out by end of the year.

Regards

Stephen

Over the last three years we have seen quite an expansion of TLUD
development thanks to Paul and others. It is more difficult to ascertain
the extent of actual use of the various TLUD's in areas where they are being
developed or manufactured. Last year at this time Dr. Muhammad Nurhuda
informed us of some impressive numbers of low cost (Kompor Biomass) TLUDs
being manufactured and sold in Indonesia. I heard at ETHOS in January that a
very small number of TLUD stoves and heaters developed in the Philippines
and Vietnam are actually use by small businesses or households. Is this
technology still in evolution? Where can we find significant deployment?
What is needed to enhance the deployment of TLUD's?
