Super caps aren't new. The trouble is, they have relatively low maximum
voltage specs, and the energy stored is proportional to the square of the
voltage x capacity. They also "leak" their stored energy much more quickly
than say a lithium battery. That high voltage capacity issue means that you
need smart "buck" power electronics to step the contents of the supercap
down to something usable. The technology will improve though.
