There is, but reducing the airflow at that point is probably not optimal.
The best is a slightly large channel then a constriction right at the point
of entry into the fire. This gives the least flow resistance during
preheating (and more time to get hot) and gives the greatest impetus to the
incoming / injecting air. Its tiny mass has to carry it to the centre of the
open space inside to get good mixing.
