[Stoves] Aprovecho Stove Camp- regarding briquettes

Daniel:

I hope others at stove camp will chime in, but I saw almost no use of briquettes of any kind at stove camp.

Your video from below is a nice informativevideo. Thanks for sharing. No relation I think to any tests performed at stove camp. But since there was considerable interest (half?) at ths camp in char-making stoves, I wonder if you or any holey briquette user has tried to save (and then analyze) the nice looking char you showed after the briquette had been fully pyrolyzed.

In your writeup, you mentioned the Roblok vimeo at
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=L1t6eD9Ijwc&feature=player_embedded

which in its last segment talks about removing the charred briquette so as to avoid the problem of excessive CO release.

This CO problem with char consumption was a constant refrain (from Dean etal) at the camp. Since I am trying to maximize char production, I'd sure like to hear about rocket stove designers who might be working this improving indoor air improvement angle (adding to the soil and climate benefit reasons). Not many rocket stoves have the ability to so easily remove char.

As said earlier, the stove camp briquette press was for for longer rectangular "sticks" designed for regular rockets - maybe especially for the institutional rocket stove type being produced by InStove (which factory we visited)- which showed up very well (by far the best) in the camp testing. Production to start soon overseas as well.

I am going to write something next about my thoughts after trying to produce a third shaped briquette.

Hope this answers your questions.

If briquettes are on the agenda at stove camp, here is a link to a video on a flexi-fuel (briquette/stickwood) prototype I was working on a couple of years ago.
(there is an accompanying text explaining the context and objectives of the project on the drop-menu right underneath the video ) :

This is a heating stove design which is of course not the focus of stove camp, but it could perhaps trigger a new idea from some of you.
This project was briefly discussed here on the stoves list, as well as on this rocket mass heater forum ;
