[Stoves] Stove Definition - Char production

Dear Ron and All Char Retainers

Would any of you agree with the following method of determining, but the most direct possible mathematical route, the ‘char producing efficiency’ of an appliance as follows:

Fraction carbon in the char remaining divided by Fraction of carbon in the original dry fuel, expressed as a percentage

 

This captures the original carbon % of the raw fuel on a dry basis, and the same value for the char remaining (on average of course).

Dividing one by the other gives the % of carbon that was in the original fuel retained in the char remaining.

Would you accept this as a realistic measure of the char production?  I will consider offering it to the Standards Committee to be included in the document. Maybe they will like it. It adds cost to testing but it might not be much.

It does not address the temperature at which it was processed, but that might be very difficult to assess without looking at the chemical structure for telltale signs.
