  Kevin:

I don't recall saying I need any spherical biomass.

  # ??? You asked below if anyone is able to supply biomass fuel spheres!!

But any size, and specification, and amount you have will find a needy biochar home. What have you got for us?

  # Production of biomass spheres from biomass is inherently more costly than cylinders, pellets, or briquettes. However, if you have identified a market, biomass spheres can be made if the price is right. I know someone who has developed technology for producing charcoal spheres for fuel, and if you could tell him the feedstock available and its present form, along with sphere size you felt the market wanted and the price he could sell them for, he might be interested in giving you a firm proposal.

  # Fuel preparation is a costly nuisance, in terms of time, convenience, and capital, but it has to be done. Stove systems are a compromise between many factors, one of which is fuel preparation.

    Frank and list:

Need to bring in one more variable: fuel shape. Imagine the fuel is pencil shaped. If placed vertically, they work fine to make char. If horizontal and parallel, they can block most vertical air flow. Anyone able to supply biomass fuel spheres?

    # What diameter do you want? What material? Do you have a complete specification? How many tonnes do you want? How much are you willing to pay per tonne?

    Dear Martin,

I often determine the particle density here in the lab using free flowing
sand. If the particle density of the fuel is determined (g/cc) and you know
the weight of fuel packed in a known volume you know the volume of voids and
can determine the air speed - I am thinking.

I think in gasification they use the term "superficial velocity" a fictional
speed derived from the air volume and cross section of the chamber, the
actual speed of any given bit of air flow through the spaces will be much
    higher of course.
