Lloyd: and stove and biochar-policy list

1. Thanks for the alert. I did listen - about 1.5 hours. Very competent knowledgeable guy from EPA - all kinds of stoves covered

2. I just looked at:http://www.biomassthermal.org/resource/webinars.asp
and today's webinar was not yet listed. I think it will be free and important for anyone dealing with bigger biomass thermal equipment. Most time spent on PM 2.5 limits per hour. Now 4.2 grams for many classes of apparatus, headed for 1.3.

3. They answered about a dozen pre-webinar wrtten equations, and said they will later put up answers to another 30 sent in.

4. My two were:

Q1. Any comments on differences for stoves that pyrolyze rather than combust (and intentionally produce as much char as possible )

Q2. The DC organization called GACC (Global Alliance for Clean Cookstoves) has been dong something similar. They are at version 4.2.2. Any contact with them?

Webinar - Today, 1PM ET

Innovation and the NSPS

How can the EPA encourage innovative new technologies?

Webinar - 1PM ET - 2PM ET Thursday, May 9, 2013

EPA regulations for biomass heating devices often have addressed one set of problems, and inadvertently led to others as technology developed. The EPA has stated that in the next wood heater New Source Performance Standard (NSPS), it wants to "minimize potential loopholes." How can the NSPS encourage and not discourage new technologies that may be cleaner and more efficient, but have difficulty with approved test methods? What lessons have we learned from the existing NSPS and EPA voluntary programs? Register for this free webinar on May 9th from 1PM ET - 2PM ET to learn more.

Description

This webinar is being held in the lead up to the Wood Stove Design Challenge , a national competition to promote extremely clean, efficient, innovative and affordable cordwood technology.

This webinar is co-hosted by the Biomass Thermal Energy Council and the Alliance for Green Heat.

Topics Include:

    • How the NSPS applies to residential biomass heating equipment
    • What procedures, qualifications, emissions limits, and technologies are under consideration for the draft NSPS rule
    • The comparative changes from the existing and draft NSPS
    • How the new NSPS would promote and handle innovative technologies
    • Will this NSPS drive innovation by requiring industry to meet strict emission limits?
    • Question and Answer session with the speaker (questions are requested in advance)

When?

Date : Thursday, May 9th, 2013

Time : 1PM ET (approximately 1 hour)
