[Stoves] Water heating fuel efficiency formula

AJH,
Are we mixing calories per gram and kJ per kilogram
I was under the impression that the specific heat of water was 1 calorie per 
gram and all other materials was in relationship to water so 316 ss at .5 is 
half that of water?
