[Stoves] Correcting a misconception that approaches myth status

Dean and all,

Maybe a "meta-study" might be worth doing. But I believe that, with
some exceptions, the development of TLUDs and micro-gasification has
progressed thus far based on rapidly shared information without the
delays of waiting for peer reviewed articles that could be behind
pay-walls for access. TLUD progress is a tribute to how the Internet
and email have made these advances possible. BTW, it also helps that
the TLUD devices tend to be small, inexpensive to make with common
materials, and users of fuels as simple as wood pieces, chips, corn
cobs, and (for quality processed fuel) wood pellets by the sacks in so
many stores.

This might seem to be a strange opinion, coming from a retired
university professor. Peer review is generally useful, but TLUD
technology became (has been) more of a grassroots effort with so many
people doing different things, building upon each others' work, sharing
openly at stove camps and meetings, and mainly without expectations of
financial return.

Generally speaking, the tiny amounts of sharing about micro-gasification
from the multi-millions of dollars spent by a few large corporations
(and by some large government grants and some university work) have been
completely overwhelhmed by the efforts of the volunteers and
enthusiasts. As documentation of that, the archives of the Stoves
Listserv and the memories by the old timers are more valuable than a few
peer-reviewed papers. A meta-study reviewing the processes and
developments would be an appropriate recognition.

Besides, we have Christa Roth's Micro-gasification manual via GIZ as a
great resource!!!
