Yes, let charcoal burn in the same stove without force air will be low heat, so people can only use it for certain low heat cooking type or keep warm only. There’s a charcoal market here, mostly for bbq stuffs but it need a bit larger size charcoal. Very few people use char for soil, most of them save the charcoal for their future cooking demand. I talked to some people in some government institutes, they do have research about using biochar for soil, turn out with positive result but  it just stop there, no for effort to turn to application of any kind.

We sold about 5000 so far, retail price ranging from 9 to 22 USD. Most common stove is the medium one, good size for family cooking, price at USD12. 

 

We have a try a stove program which let people borrow a stove for few days but it did not work as expected, most people just buy it after seeing demos, probably the price is low and they dont want to get in trouble of borrowing and returning the stove. There are quite a few people buy more than 1 size. 

 

We estimate and also some customers feedback that we can save 50%-70% woods vs three stone stove. We have not measure the char as most customers just use it instead of saving it. 

 

Our stove can add more wood and burn for 3-4 hrs straight, longer cook time may require to remove some ashes. To add fuel, just remove the pot and throw some piece of wood or corn cobs in (it will mostly stay vertical as it should be), it will keep burning, so batch is not a problem for us. Corn cobs burn out much faster than wood and much harder to use with three stone so we have great advantage at areas that grow a lot of corn.

 

Some sales point:

Saving wood

Higher heat level, cook faster

Can use wood in various shape and size (as long as it fit the stove)

Can use with any biomass, any type, any size (too small pieces like saw dust, leaves can be use in biomass boxes)

Creating char 

Less smoke – good for health and environment

Cleaner 

Less ashes 

Can adjust fire level

Easy to fire up – always amaze people how fast we started the stove, most of them thought we add gasoline while in fact it was only some pieces of wood.

No need fire tending – can set fire level and leave it burn for 30-40 min without tending. Very good sales point for women, especially women with small babies to take care of.

Portable, can use anywhere – very good sales point for women, same as above. People can bring the stove to cook in front yard and take care of small children at same time instead of cooking in kitchen with three stone stoves.

Can be used out door, good protection from wind 

Can add fuel to extend cook time

Not very hot cover (~90oC on out cover, still very hot but not immediate burn when touching)

Fire safe – fire cannot get out of the stove on the size. Can put stuffs, even wet wood around the stove for drying without worrying it will catch fire.

There may be a few more coming from some users with specific needs/applications.
